Smitten with Scalamandre's Zebras

Scalamandre Zebras wallpaper, made iconic by Gino’s restaurant in New York City, was designed by Flora Scalamandre.
“Mr. [Gino] Circiello was a hunter without the means to pay for an African safari, but he reasoned that he could at least afford zebras on his wallpaper. So he commissioned a friend to design wallpaper depicting leaping zebras pursued by arrows.”

1} The inside of Gino’s…Notice the missing stripe on the smaller zebra’s derriere?  After a restaurant fire some of the wallpaper had to be replaced.   When it came in there was a stripe missing on some of the screens.  The wallpaper went up with this imperfection due to the deadline for re-opening.  Some regulars are certain to this day that the stripe had been left out on purpose — perfection believed to be bad luck.
